What challenges did the KSW face?
The steady increase in patients and staff combined with an acute lack of space presented a major challenge for the Kantonsspital Winterthur. A future-oriented locker room concept was required for the new 61,000 square meter replacement building, "Didymos." The old infrastructure was reaching its limits, triggering an urgent need for an extremely space-efficient solution. This system had to not only secure long-term capacity for the growing workforce but also noticeably reduce administrative effort while meeting the highest standards of user-friendliness.
Why did the hospital choose Zippsafe?
KSW chose Zippsafe because the system enables enormous space savings without feeling impersonal. The ultimate deciding factor was a pilot project in 2018, during which around 60 employees thoroughly tested the solution. The verdict was unanimous: a full 100 percent of the testers clearly preferred Zippsafe over conventional, cramped locker alternatives. This overwhelming acceptance from the staff, combined with the desired process optimization, made the decision extremely easy for the housekeeping management.

How does Zippsafe meet the high demands of the KSW?
Zippsafe additionally convinced the hospital with the ZippManager Software, which digitizes locker room management and enables assignments with just a few clicks. Thanks to the seamless integration into the existing Kaba exos access system, employees can conveniently operate their locker bags using their standard employee cards, without the need for additional RFID media.
The truly special aspect of this installation is its shared growth: starting with just four test units, the state-of-the-art facility has expanded through multiple phases and upgrades to encompass 183 ZippSpace systems today. As a result, KSW proudly hosts one of the largest Zippsafe installation in Switzerland, accommodating 2,665 employees.
