The Werdhölzli sewage treatment plant, part of the “Entsorgung + Recycling Zurich (ERZ)” (waste disposal and recycling) department, plays a crucial role in safeguarding the city's natural water cycle. Established in 1926, the plant has experienced continuous expansion over the years. The corresponding increase in staff eventually led to the locker rooms reaching their capacity limits. However, with the addition of 11 new Zippsafe systems, ERZ successfully expanded the number of changing stations from 78 to 141. As a result, the facility now benefits from enhanced capacity, process optimization, and heightened employee satisfaction.

The Werdhölzli sewage plant achieves incredible feats. Annually, approximately 76.5 million cubic meters of wastewater from nearly half a million individuals are purified and subsequently released into the urban river, Limmat. This intricate process consists of five treatment stages that remove all solid and dissolved pollutants from the wastewater, with residues being ecologically recycled.

With the steady growth of the population, the task becomes increasingly challenging. Developments necessitate an expansion in the staff size of ERZ, causing the existing number of lockers to become insufficient. Consequently, last year, the traditional lockers had to be replaced to enhance the capacities in the changing rooms.

Since acquiring Zippsafe, space constraints at ERZ are no longer an issue. The systems cater to various professional groups, ranging from warehouse workers to office-based project managers. The primary objective is to address the requirements of employees who commute to work by bicycle. Thanks to Zippsafe, employees can take advantage of a particularly user-friendly solution. The integrated hanger system allows for the organized and wrinkle-free storage of clothing, whether it be work attire, sportswear, or suits. Additionally, the retractable shoe compartment beneath the bench can hold two pairs of shoes.

Special hygiene features enable employees to enjoy a fresh and pleasant-smelling locker room at the beginning and end of each workday. The water-repellent fabric within the locker bags contributes to this. Contrary to the main task of Werdhölzli, there is no water cycle in our locker bags. Excess water beads off the fabric. Combined with the built-in ventilation system, humidity within the bags is minimized, and the formation of unpleasant odors is prevented.

The lockable bags' integration with employee cards simplifies and streamlines operation, made possible through an online connection to the existing Kaba Exos access management system. This solution addresses the well-known, cumbersome issue of traditional locker key management. As we all know, keys can be forgotten or lost. Thanks to Zippsafe, operators benefit from process optimizations and reduced costs, making the operation of changing stations a (digital) breeze.
